Global Food Crisis from The Washington Post

I hope that you all have had a chance to read the series on the Global Food Crisis from The Washington Post.  The stories highlight the urgent need for help - both internationally and in our neighborhoods.

Looking for a way to help close to home?  Volunteer with Cafe Capitol Hill or consider sponsoring a meal.  We have noticed a large increase in our Cafe guests in recent months and we would appreciate your help.

Spirit on Tap

Join in a conversation about spirituality among faith traditions, Wednesday February 27 at 6:30pm at Taverna Restaurant 305 Pennsylvania Ave Se. Rev. Ginger and other spiritual leaders on Capitol Hill will be on hand to discuss spirituality across faith traditions. Stay tuned for details. In the meantime, feel free to invite friends, neighbors, family, and co-workers to what should be a lively conversation in a low-key environment. Space and appetizers donated by CHUMC's neighbor on Capitol Hill, Taverna the Greek Isles Restaurant.

CHUM book group - “Saint Maybe”

The CHUM book group will meet on Sunday, February 24th, immediately following church for lunch on the Hill and discussion of Saint Maybe by Anne Tyler. It's a beautiful story of a young man's guilt after disastrous events and his search for atonement, forgiveness, and the spiritual guidance he receives from the Church of the Second Chance. Contact Sue Marullo for further information. All are welcome!

Explore Covenant with CHUMC

Sunday, February 24th and March 2nd, CHUMC will offer “Exploring Covenant,” a class for anyone thinking of joining our congregation. This combination crash course of “CHUMC and Methodism 101” puts a new twist on the traditional “new members” class. You’ll have a chance to meet others who are new (and some not so new) to the church and to learn what it means to pursue discipleship as a professing "member" of a local United Methodist church. Class will be held from 1-4pm in the parlor. RSVP to Rev. Ginger at 202-546-1000. It may be the case that you want to join CHUMC, but are not able to commit to a class. Please be assured that participation in the class is not a requirement for entering covenant with CHUMC!

Pray With Me People!

Once again Rev. Ginger will offer this powerful class that delves into the spiritual discipline of prayer. Feel like you’re not sure anyone’s listening? Love your prayer life, but want to learn new or different ways to pray? Rev. Ginger will focus on one form of prayer per week and include the practice of that form as “homework.” Pray With Me… will begin on Thursday, February 21st at 7pm and run through March 13th.
